Joseph McCarthy, M.D.


Dr. McCarthy was born and educated in New York City. After graduating from Manhattan College with a baccalaureate in science, he attended the medical school of the State University of New York at Buffalo, obtaining his M.D. degree in 1970.

Post-graduate training included internship and training in diagnostic radiology. After completing his Diagnostic Radiology training at Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York, Dr. McCarthy also completed a fellowship in Nuclear Medicine in 1976.

Between 1976 and 1984, Dr. Joseph McCarthy's medical career was almost entirely experienced in Westchester County, including appointments in Westchester County Medical Center, at various levels, and as a consultant at the Veterans Hospital in Montrose. Academic appointments included assistant professorship in radiology, assistant professorship in medicine and associate professorship in radiology in New York Medical College.

In 1984, initial steps were taken to provide the first MRI scanner in Westchester County. Since that time, Ardsley Radiology has been providing diagnostic radiology services, including MRI, MRA, CT, CTA, Mammography, Radiography, Nuclear Medicine and Ultrasound (Sonography). In 2000, a Yonkers location was added.

Dr. McCarthy is a Diplomate in the American Board of Medical Examiners and is Board certified in two specialities; certification was achieved in Radiology and also in Nuclear Medicine. Society memberships include the Radiological Society of North America, Society for Breast Imaging, New York County Medical Society, New York State Radiological Society and other organizations. Previous certifications included Clinical Laboratory Directory (New York City) and "B" Reader, certified by National Institute Occupational Safety and Health.

Dr. McCarthy is licensed in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and California.
